Following the detention of thousands of people, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has called for another round of protests in Delhi on Sunday (October 11, 2026) to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities. Leaders of youth and student organisations have vowed to continue their protest until all their demands are met.

In a special hearing, the Supreme Court on Sunday (October 11, 2026) will hear a petition filed by Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Menaka Guruswamy against the indiscriminate detentions of leaders, former Chief Ministers, students, youths, journalists, lawyers and others by the Delhi Police, against the rule of law and democratic dissent. The blanket shutdown of public transport was designed to deter protesters converging in the national capital to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

CJP’s Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained when they landed in Delhi ahead of the protest on Saturday (October 10, 2026). They have since been taken to undisclosed locations with no information on their whereabouts, the CJP alleged. Meanwhile, The Office of the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner (OHCHR) said it was “concerned” by reports of “mass detentions” at the Delhi protests, a statement that the government rejected.
