John Ternus outlines the power of the AI-enabled Apple watches, as well as “huge” advances in health + fitness, along with Apple Intelligence.
He next announces the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4.
A new ‘Health Sensing System’ improves on electrode surface area, redesigns photo-diodes, and features better green LEDs. This supports better heart rate data collection. Background heart rate readings are now more frequent, along with heart rate variability (HRV).
“Apple Watch has the most heart rate sensing in a wearable,” the company claims.
The Health app on the iPhone will let users get a richer understanding of their health statistics. Users can expect personalised suggestions for their workout, powered by Apple Intelligence.
A new Longevity tab is available for more holistic health assessments.
Apple Intelligence features on the watch powers Audio Intelligence and helps users “make sense” of what they hear. Users who are deaf or have trouble hearing can get alerts for sounds such as sirens and doorbells.
Live Rewind allows watch-wearers to go back 15 seconds and transcribe what was said, to recall missed information. Meanwhile, Siri Recap uses ambient listening to take notes on meetings. These can be reviewed in the Siri App. To preserve privacy, the raw audio used for this processing are not accessible, and speakers are not identified.
The Apple Watch Series 12 retails at $399
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 retails at $799, and gets over 2 days of battery life.
They will be available on September 18 and are open for pre-orders.
