Suruchi, in particular, was in fine form and was largely responsible for keeping India ahead right from the start, first in the qualifying round and then in the final.

Asian Games 2026: Persistence and drama as India’s mixed relay team, Seema win medals Suruchi shot a series of 99, 97 and a perfect 100 in the qualifying to total 296, the highest by any shooter, while Kamaljeet tried to keep pace with a 291.

In the final round, Suruchi again kept getting as close to the middle as possible, consistently scoring in high 10s for 245.7 points.

Kamaljeet could only manage 238.9 but together it was enough for gold and a new record.

India has already lost three of the seven golds it won in shooting last time around, although Friday’s (September 25, 2026) win made up for it a little.

However, the 22-medal haul from Hangzhou now looks a far shot.

Asian Games 2026 India’s medallists: Full list of winners One of those golds that India failed to defend was in the men’s 50m 3-position team event, where it finished with a silver.

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, the joint owner of the qualifying Games record of 591, could only manage a 589.

Niraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil shot 588 and 585, respectively, as the Indian trio managed a combined score of 1762, four behind China.

Tomar, also the Asian record holder and Niraj, however, disappointed in the individual event, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively.

Tomar, silver medallist in the previous edition, was far from convincing, struggling to find his rhythm and the target in all three positions.

With several of his shots scoring only nines, the 25-year-old had 102.9 in kneeling and 102.4 in prone for the first two rounds to trail top-placed and eventual champion Liu Yukun of China by 3.2 points.

Yukun set a new Games record on way to his gold while compatriot Zhang Changhong took the silver.
