The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Coimbatore, which is the Special Court for CBI cases, on Friday sentenced two government school teachers to three-and-a-half years of imprisonment for cheating State Bank of India (SBI) by obtaining loans using forged documents.
Chief Judicial Magistrate K. Sivakumar awarded the punishment, along with a fine of ₹1 lakh each, to T. Vinothkumar (42) of Pappanur village in Pochampalli taluk in Krishnagiri district and M. Nithilan (40) of K. Morur in Salem district.
According to the CBI, Vinothkumar, while working as a teacher in Krishnagiri, obtained a loan of ₹13.5 lakh from SBI’s Sathyamangalam branch in 2021 by submitting forged documents to support that he was a teacher in a government school in Erode. Similarly, Nithilan, who was employed in a government school in Dharmapuri, obtained a loan of ₹12 lakh from the same SBI branch in 2021 by submitting forged documents to show that he was a government school teacher in Erode district.
A few months after obtaining the loans, the two teachers changed the salary account from SBI, from which monthly loan repayment installments were getting debited. The bank conducted an inquiry and found that their documents were forged and lodged a complaint for a CBI investigation in 2024. The CBI investigated the case and chargesheeted the teachers in 2025.
The court found the teachers guilty for cheating and forgery. CBI Public Prosecutor V. Surendra Mohan said the court also issued non-bailable warrants against the two teachers, who are currently working, as they did not appear for the judgement.
