The Marathahalli police have arrested a 22-year-old delivery executive for allegedly forcing his way into a woman’s apartment on the pretext of using the washroom and then flashing at her.

The accused has been identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath (22). He has been arrested in connection with the incident that came to light after the survivor shared her ordeal and video footage of the confrontation on social media, triggering widespread outrage.

According to the woman’s complaint, the delivery executive had arrived at her apartment to deliver a parcel and requested permission to use the washroom. She refused, explaining that she lived alone and asked him to use a washroom in a neighbouring house instead. However, the accused allegedly ignored her refusal, removed his footwear and forcibly entered the flat as she attempted to close the door.

Believing he might be facing a genuine emergency, the woman allowed him to proceed. She later alleged that after coming out of the washroom attached to her bedroom, the delivery executive flashed at her, leaving her “shocked, violated, humiliated and completely unsafe” inside her own home.

Fearing for her safety, the woman switched on her mobile phone camera, kept the apartment door open and stayed near the entrance so that she could flee or seek help if necessary. She then confronted the accused, telling him she would file a police complaint. The man allegedly fled the building through the staircase while she followed him towards the lift and recorded the interaction on video.

In her social media post, the woman questioned whether e-commerce companies conduct adequate background verification of delivery personnel and said the incident had left her traumatised.

Based on her complaint, Marathahalli police registered a case and subsequently arrested the accused. He has been booked under Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 329(2) (criminal trespass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
