Deputy Lucy Stephenson put forward her proposition to Jersey's States Assembly in June which called for the tax - currently around the 65p per litre mark - added to petrol and diesel prices to be cut by 10p a litre from 1 October to 31 December.
However, Stephenson said she had withdrawn the proposal following "constructive discussions" with Treasury Minister Alan Maclean.
She said the talks had produced a "pragmatic way forward" to help islanders deal with financial issues.
