Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has extended the Karnataka government’s support to Operation Toofan, an anti-narcotics initiative launched by the State government to curb the sale and distribution of drugs in Kerala.

Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala met Mr. Shivakumar in Bengaluru to seek Karnataka’s cooperation for the operation on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Mr. Shivakumar assured Mr. Chennithala that Karnataka would provide complete support to the initiative. Responding to Mr. Chennithala’s request for stricter surveillance along the Kerala-Karnataka border, the Karnataka Chief Minister also assured that additional police personnel would be deployed to strengthen inspections and enforcement activities in the border areas.

Follow-up measures

Congratulating the Kerala government on the success of Operation Toofan, Mr. Shivakumar said the mission is a model that could be emulated by other States. As part of follow-up measures, he directed the Karnataka Chief Secretary to initiate the necessary action.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chennithala has convened a meeting of the Directors General of Police (DGPs) of the southern States as part of the Operation Toofan on Friday (July 10). The meeting will be held at the police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram to discuss coordinated efforts and further action against drug trafficking and its spread across the region.
