Malaysian Prime Minister’s visit: stringent traffic restrictions in Kozhikode on September 13

Extensive traffic restrictions will be in place in Kozhikode city and adjoining areas on Sunday (September 13) in connection with the visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the traffic police have said.

The restrictions will come into effect from 5 p.m. on Sunday. Complete traffic restrictions will be enforced on the stretch from Vaidyarangadi and Ramanattukara to Malaparamba, and from Malaparamba towards Kunnamangalam and Mavoor.

Vehicles arriving from the Wayanad side will have to enter Kozhikode city through Thamarassery, Balussery, Nanminda and Eranhipalam. Vehicles from the Koduvally side will be diverted through Padinjarathilam-Kalarikkandi-Varattiyakk-Peringalam, while those arriving from Mukkam will have to take the Chettukadavu-Peringalam route.

Vehicles from the Kannur side will be diverted through Elathur-Pavangad-Nadakkavu. Vehicles arriving from the University side will have to take the Idimuzhikkal-Ramanattukara-Feroke-Cheruvannur route to reach Kozhikode city.

Vehicles from the city heading towards Kunnamangalam will have to use the Medical College-Mundikkalthazham-Kottamparamba-Manathanath road. Vehicles from the Malaparamba side will have to proceed via Poolakkadavu-Iringadanpalli-Mundikkalthazham-Kottamparamba-Manathanath towards Kunnamangalam.

Passengers travelling to the Calicut International Airport and the railway station have been advised to leave early. No vehicle parking will be permitted on roads between Malaparamba, Kunnamangalam, and Mavoor. Traffic on the route will be completely halted during the movement of the VVIP convoy, the police said.

Mr. Anwar is scheduled to arrive at the Kozhikode International Airport at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday. He will be at the Markaz from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., where he will receive the first ‘Excellence Award’ instituted by the Sheikh Abubakr Foundation. Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar will present the award at the ceremony.

The Malaysian Prime Minister will subsequently visit the C.M. Makham at Mavoor, where he is expected to spend about 20 minutes, before leaving for his place of stay at 10 p.m.

Kozhikode city and its adjoining areas have been brought under a high security cover for the visit. Security arrangements for Mr. Anwar are being made on a scale similar to those provided for the Prime Minister and President of India. Intelligence Additional Director General of Police Dinesh Kashyap recently visited the city to hold discussions with security officials regarding the arrangements.
