Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy said that the credit for realising the long-cherished dream of the Rayalaseema people — the construction of the steel plant — goes to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The TDP leader dared the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Y.S. Avinaash Reddy for a debate on any issue regarding Rayalaseema’s projects and development.
“We are also prepared to discuss the number of industries we brought to the region over the past two years,” the Minister said.
Speaking to the media from his camp office at Banaganapalle on Saturday, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said the YSRCP, which failed to establish the steel plant during its five-year tenure, is now attempting to steal the credit. He alleged that the YSRCP leaders’ greed for commissions has created a situation in which industries that were prepared to set up their units in the State have fled.
“Several industries, including Kia’s ancillary units and many others, for which groundbreaking ceremonies were held, have fled out of fear of YSRCP leaders,” he alleged.
Mr. Janardhan Reddy claimed that the YSRCP government had in February 2023 performed a groundbreaking ceremony for a steel plant at a site that lacked even a compound wall.
“Today, we are not just building a steel plant but also establishing a greenfield solar power plant in 2,000 acres land,” he said. Mr. Janardhan Reddy said that while the previous YSRCP government had allocated a meagre ₹2,000 crore for Rayalaseema irrigation projects, the present government has been developing them with an investment of ₹24,000 crore over two years.
“We are ready to debate with the YSRCP leaders on any issue regarding Rayalaseema’s projects and development,” he said.
The Minister said the government was developing industrial estates in Orvakal and Kopparthi with an investment of ₹5,000 crore. Regarding Amaravati capital region, he said that YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy keeps changing his stance, shifting between Amaravati, the three-capital concept, and MAVIGUN.
