Salman Khan’s much-awaited war drama ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace’ appears to be facing another roadblock, with its reported China connection continuing to hold up the film’s certification.
Earlier, reports suggested that the film could finally move forward after a Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) screening was expected to take place next week.
However, a fresh report claims there has been no progress on that front yet.A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama said that the film’s CBFC screening has still not been scheduled.
“I wish these reports were true.
But with a heavy heart, I'd like to inform you that there has sadly been no update about its CBFC screening.
The film is still stuck due to its China connection.”According to the report, the makers are continuing discussions with the concerned government officials in an attempt to resolve the issue.
The film is expected to proceed for CBFC certification once the matter is sorted out, following which the makers can work towards a theatrical release.However, there is currently no clarity on how long the process could take.
The resolution could come within days or weeks, while the film could also remain in limbo for longer, the report stated.
For now, the status of ‘Maatrubhumi’ remains unchanged.The film’s release timeline is also dependent on when the issue is resolved.
Addressing the possibility of a 2026 release, the source said, “As said before, it all depends on when the issues get resolved.
If it happens sooner, the makers will definitely try to bring out the film in theatres in 2026 itself, though there are not enough vacant slots available.
Or else, it'll move to 2027.”‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace’ was originally announced under the title ‘Battle of Galwan’ before being renamed earlier this year.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film is inspired by the 2020 India-China conflict.
Salman Khan headlines the project, which also features Chitrangada Singh and Ankur Bhatia in prominent roles.
