The Lok Sabha on Monday (August 3, 2026) passed the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill to replace an ordinance that raised the sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court from 34 to 38, amid concerns over mounting backlog of cases. The Bill was passed by a voice vote in the House.

The Rajya Sabha passes the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill by a voice vote.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 in Lok Sabha on Monday, following the introduction of the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026 by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Rao Inderjit Singh.

The monsoon session has seen frequent adjournments over Opposition’s demands related to the protest at Jantar Mantar against NEET-UG paper leak. The monsoon session of Parliament began on July 20 and will continue till August 13.
