Amid massive Opposition furore, the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (August 12, 2026) adopted a motion to send the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, to a Joint Parliamentary Committee via voice vote. The House was adjourned for the day shortly after. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha passed the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and took up the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, for consideration and passing.
The adjournment till 11 a.m. on Thursday (August 13, 2026) came as the Opposition kept up with relentless protests even as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said Home Minister Amit Shah and the government are ready to immediately start a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the NEET-related students’ protests, provided the Opposition MPs maintain decorum and cooperates.
Mr. Shah on Wednesday (August 12, 2026) wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, asking him to consult with the Opposition on fixing the time and number of hours of the proposed discussion. Earlier in the day, the Home Minister, speaking to the reporters, said: “If Opposition gives it in writing to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by 2 p.m. today, we can start a discussion at 3 p.m. today until 3 p.m. tomorrow. If the discussion starts, I will give a reply tomorrow at 3 p.m.” Hitting back, LoP Rahul Gandhi declines the offer, stating that the Opposition is “not interested” in Mr. Shah’s lecture.
The report of an inquiry committee which investigated allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma — against whom removal proceedings were initiated over the alleged discovery of unaccounted cash from his official residence — was tabled in Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned in pre-lunch session without transacting any business following an uproar over BJP MP Sushmita Dev’s alleged derogatory remarks against CPM’s John Brittas.
