Police gave the names of the accused as Arman Khan alias Aman Soni, 34, of North-East Delhi, and Sanjeev Kumar alias Johnny, 34, a resident of Sultan Puri in New Delhi.
On September 28, residents of a house in Sahayog Residency Complex on Alake Kambla Cross Road, had went out at around 3 p.m., locking the doors. When they returned at around 5 p.m., they found that the front-door latch was broken and the house was ransacked. The burglars had allegedly escaped with gold jewellery worth around ₹14 lakh, cash, a watch and a trolley bag, among others. The North police had registered a case in this regard.
The police were simultaneously investigating another house break-in case reported on September 27 under Barke police station. In that incident, burglars allegedly broke open a locker at a house on Bokkapatna Road during the daytime. Finding no valuables, they allegedly stole cheque books. The Barke Police had registered a case.
A special team led by Central Sub Division Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravish S Naik zeroed in on the culprits and found that the accused were travelling towards Delhi by train. As the train reached Gujarat, they got in touch with the Vadodara police and with their assistance, nabbed the accused on September 29. the police said.
The police said all the stolen property was recovered from the accused, with the total value of the recovered items estimated at around ₹18 lakh. The accused were produced before the jurisdictional magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody. Police said their police custody would soon be sought for investigation.
According to police, Arman Khan was facing over 40 burglary cases across cities in the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa and Hyderabad.
