Virudhunagar district police have cracked the July 5 house burglary in Ayyappan Colony in Sivakasi with the arrest of four persons from Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts.
The police said that four more accused were absconding and the police have launched a manhunt for them.
A police officer said one of the accused was wanted in several criminal cases reported in different parts of the State.
The accused from Tirunelveli and Tiruchi districts had come in an SUV from Tiruchi. After having roamed around Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts in the SUV, the team had again entered Virudhunagar district.
They had come to Sivakasi and had spent good time at a residential area along the main road in Sivakasi. They had been looking for locked houses.
Later, the gang had come to Ayyappan Nagar and found the house of a businessman, Aravind Ram. The gang had broke open the gate, doors and almirah. While they were involved in burglary, the family members of the businessman had returned home from a hotel at around 11.30 p.m.
The driver of the SUV who noticed the family members had alerted the burglars inside the house by continuously honking the horn.
The accused who were armed brandished sharp weapons at the family members and escaped in the SUV.
Based on the CCTV footage taken from various parts of Virudhunagar and other districts, the police finally tracked four persons from Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts who were camping for long in Sivakasi.
The accused were identified as Petchimuthu, 21, Somasundaram, 24, Manoj Kumar, 24, and Prithivirajan.
The police said that the four had harboured the fleeing accused at different places in the southern districts. The police said that the accused had used two different number plates while going around the different districts.
The police have got identity of the perpetrators of the crime and were on the lookout for them.
