The United Democratic Front (UDF) government will leave its imprint on a range of development projects in Thrissur, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said here on Saturday, asserting that the government would protect the public’s expectations and fulfil the promises it had made.
Speaking at a reception organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC), Mr. Satheesan said Thrissur, with its crucial place in Keralam’s political map and its distinctive cultural, artistic and social heritage, would be taken to a higher level while retaining its character.
“There will be projects in Thrissur bearing the signature of the UDF government. We will take the unique artistic, cultural and social heritage of this land to a higher level in keeping with the needs of the new age,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the people had placed considerable expectations on the new government and promised that those expectations would be protected.
‘Will keep our word’
“We will keep our word. The journey to take Keralam into a new era has begun. The UDF government represents a departure from conventional ways of functioning,” he said.
Mr. Satheesan also expressed confidence that the UDF would return to power after five years with 110 seats.
The Chief Minister was visiting the DCC office for the first time after taking charge. DCC president Joseph Tajet welcomed him by presenting a shawl.
The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s plan to transform the historic Thekkinkad Maidan into a world-class public square without compromising its heritage.
For renovation
Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Thrissur Press Club, Mr. Satheesan said funds had been earmarked in his first Budget itself for the renovation of the Maidan, keeping in mind Thrissur’s special place in Keralam.
“The aim is to transform Thekkinkad Maidan into a world-class square while preserving its heritage. It should become a place that even international tourists visiting Keralam would want to see,” he said.
