Mira comes from Meitei warrior clan.
Her strength was evident from a young age, carrying heavy loads that even her elder brother struggled with.
Mirabai began weightlifting in 2008, training at the Sports Academy in Manipur.
Despite financial hardships, she travelled daily to Imphal by hitching rides with truck drivers to attend training.
Mirabai played her first Nationals three years later and joined the National Camp in Bangalore in 2011.
Since 2012, she has been training at NIS Patiala.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic, she made history as the first Indian to win a silver medal in weightlifting.
In gratitude, she invited the truck drivers who helped her during her early years and touched their feet as a sign of respect.
Currently, Mirabai serves as an Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports) in the Manipur Police.
