Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar’s total subservience to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been exposed fully, following the startling revelation by the former Chief Secretary, Jiji Thomson, the State secretary of CPI, Binoy Viswam has said.
Mr. Thomson had earlier alleged that during his tenure as the Chief Secretary, Mr. Kumar had once asked him why he did not contest Parliamentary elections on a BJP ticket, saying he could have become a Union Minister. According to Mr. Thomson, the conversation had happened in 2016, while the two were travelling on the same flight to New Delhi.
In a statement here, Mr. Viswam said that by offering the lure of a Union Minister’s post under the BJP to a senior civil servant in Keralam, Mr. Kumar has proved that he is someone who is willing to stoop to any level for the BJP.
He said Mr. Kumar later headed the infamous Ayodhya Trust and that the BJP is using the same person to crush democracy for Amit Shah, Mr. Viswam added.
He alleged that Mr. Kumar had been made the CEC as a reward for all the intrigues he has carried out on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr. Shah. Mr. Kumar’s conduct has now become unacceptable even to the other Election Commissioners, he stated.
Mr. Kumar has robbed 13 crore Indians of their right to vote and is a disgrace to the world’s largest democracy. All democratic-minded Indians now believe that elections can never be free and fair under such an individual, Mr. Viswam claimed.
He demanded that Mr. Kumar should resign from the CEC post immediately if he retained even a shred of loyalty to the Constitution or that he would have to surrender before mounting public fury.
Mr. Viswam added that after Mr. Kumar’s exit, the Electronic Voting Machines too need to exit Indian democracy.
