ED letter seeking FIR against former Keralam CM Pinarayi Vijayan and others sent to State government: SPC

State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar has said that the letter received from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), recommending the registration of a case against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and former Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas on corruption allegations in the CMRL-Exalogic pay-off case, has been forwarded to the State government for further action.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Chandrasekhar said: “I received the letter from the Enforcement Directorate. We have sent the letter to the State government. We are waiting for necessary directives from there. The ED requested us to file an FIR, but we are still examining the matter.”

He also said that the Kerala Police had received nine complaints regarding an AI-generated satirical video allegedly showing Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan dancing with Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) workers. Based on the complaints, the police approached Meta seeking the removal of the video from its social media platforms. Besides, the company usually takes down synthetic content like AI-generated videos and images that violate its community standards, he added.

Mr. Chandrasekhar was also critical of the recent incident in which Students Federation of India (SFI) leaders were handcuffed by the police while being produced at the Vanchiyoor District Court in Thiruvananthapuram in connection with a case.

He pointed out that there were clear guidelines on the use of handcuffs and that instructions in this regard have already been issued to District Police Chiefs and other senior officials. Handcuffs, he added, must be used with caution and in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.

He added that appropriate action would be taken in the issue, if found necessary, after examining the circumstances in which the two student leaders were handcuffed. SFI central committee member S.K. Adarsh and district secretariat member Manesh was recently produced before the court in handcuffs in connection with cases related to a Secretariat march.
