FIFA World Cup 2026 points table standings: The FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off on June 11, with co-hosts Mexico set to take on 2010 hosts South Africa to open the tournament, which has expanded to 48 teams.

This is set to be the biggest ever World Cup, with over 100 games to be played for the first time.

The 48 participating FIFA World Cup 2026 teams have been divided into 12 groups, with 32 of these sides gaining qualification for the next round.

The top two from each group alongside the eight best third-placed teams will advance to the 32-team knockout stage.

Co-hosts Mexico became the first team to qualify for the knockout stage after sealing a nervy 1-0 win over South Korea.
