The Bihar government on Saturday (October 10, 2026) suspended the Headmaster of a government school on allegations of selling the mid-day meal rice meant for the school children.
The action has been taken after proper inquiry, and the video of selling rice has also gone viral on social media.
Regional Deputy Director of Education, Tirhut Division, Muzaffarpur, Samar Bahadur Singh, in a letter said that District Education Officer, East Champaran (Motihari), on October 7, 2026, reported allegations against Sunil Kumar Srivastava, in-charge Headmaster of Government Basic School located in Bhawanipur (East Champaran).
“The allegations included the sale of Mid-Day Meal rice, the presence of rice in the store exceeding the recorded stock in the register, and sleeping on the school premises.
A recommendation was made to initiate disciplinary action against him,” Mr Singh said.

After review, the explanation was found to be unsatisfactory.
“Sunil Kumar Srivastava is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and subjected to disciplinary proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Bihar Government Servants (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 2005.
During the period of suspension, his headquarters is fixed at the office of the Block Education Officer, Kotwa, East Champaran,”Mr.
Singh said in the letter.
According to the suspension letter, a subsistence allowance shall be payable during the suspension period, which will be disbursed by the District Programme Officer (Establishment), East Champaran.
The objective of the mid-day meal scheme is to provide nutritious food to children studying in government schools.
