Mainstream political parties are in the thick of campaigning for the byelection in Dharapuram (SC) Assembly constituency.
Though officials are tight-lipped, it is learnt that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is expected to campaign at over 25 locations across the constituency on September 30, and again on October 4.
State Ministers K.A. Sengottiayan, K.G. Arunraj, and K. Jagadeeshwari are frequently visiting the constituency to campaign for TVK candidate P. Sathyabama, whose resignation as AIADMK MLA necessitated the byelection.
Cadres of DMK, AIADMK, TVK, CPI and Naam Tamilar Katchi are apparently reaching out to people at bus shelters, market places, places of worship and other places of public confluence.
The DMK, party sources said, has deployed 27 district secretaries, 10 former ministers, and 44 mid-level functionaries for undertaking village-wise and door-to-door campaign, seeking votes for the party candidate S. Suganya.
On Saturday (September 26), leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, party sources said, has scheduled his campaign at Nathampalayam, Mulanur, Kolathupalayam and Kundadam. Former Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin will visit the constituency for campaign on October 2.
DMK MP and Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi Karunanidhi will be campaigning on September 28, party sources added.
In support of the DMK candidate, DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakant is expected to undertake campaign on October 1.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami will be campaigning in the constituency on September 27, for the party candidate K. Banumathy. The former Chief Minister will campaign again on October 3, party sources said.
