Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the renovated Mangalagiri railway station under Guntur Division on July 17 (Friday). The station has been modernised as part of the Centre's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at a cost of ₹12.56 crore with upgraded passenger amenities and improved infrastructure. The railway station directly connects to Andhra Pradesh’s capital city Amaravati.
An NSG-4 category station, Mangalagiri has undergone extensive redevelopment, including renovation of the existing station building and construction of a second entry complex with a booking office, waiting halls and a VIP lounge. The project also features an upgraded facade, spacious entrance porch, improved platform surfacing, modern toilets, enhanced waiting areas, durable seating, standardised passenger signages and landscaped surroundings, Divisional Commercial Manager, Guntur, Vinay Kanth D., told The Hindu, on Tuesday.
To improve accessibility, the station has been equipped with two lifts, tactile pathways, ramps and accessible toilets for ‘Divyangjan’ (persons with disabilities) passengers. New platform shelters have been installed on platforms 1 and 4, while front and rear circulating areas now include dedicated parking spaces, pedestrian pathways, street lighting, lane markings and boundary walls with wider entry and exit gates.
The redeveloped station also offers retiring rooms, modern booking facilities and artistic elements reflecting the region's cultural identity. Railway officials said the project would improve passenger convenience, operational efficiency and support the socio-economic development of Mangalagiri region.
