The third edition of the Young Indians’ Parliament (YiP 3.0) organised by the Yi Coimbatore Chapter at the Kumaraguru campus on Friday witnessed 109 student delegates taking part in rigorous debates, legislative proceedings, and policy-making sessions.

The two-day simulation organised in collaboration with Kumaraguru Centre for Public and Competitive Careers (KCPC) and the Department of Political Science, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS), brought together students from 14 schools across the region donning the mantle of elected representatives.

District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar exhorted the students to cultivate the traits of listening, empathy, and mutual respect to become effective future leaders. Prioritise active listening, concentration and patience, he said, underscoring the need to embrace the country’s vast cultural and regional diversity.

Rahul Kamath, Chair of the Young Indians (Yi) Coimbatore Chapter, observed that today’s generation, in the era of Artificial Intelligence and social media, possesses a unique voice capable of shaping public discourse.

The top 15 delegates from this Coimbatore Chapter Round will qualify for the Regional Round, earning a chance to ultimately advance to the National Finals in New Delhi.

In Tiruppur district, the Young Indians Parliament (YIP) 2026 programme held recently witnessed 140 school students, debating on key national issues, including Artificial Intelligence, necessity of financial literacy in schools, mental health support system in schools and colleges, and sports as career choice.

The students deliberated on regulation of social media versus freedom of expression, technology infusion into agriculture, Indian Defence Forces’ Vision 2047, and combating plastic use.

Tiruppur Collector Manish Naraware said the event was a rare opportunity for the younger generation to assimilate the processes of democracy, while respecting the opinions of others.

The two-day event encompassed Question Hour, Bill Debate, committee deliberations, debates and voting.

At the valedictory session, the Collector honoured the meritorious performers with several awards in the presence of Young Indians Tiruppur Chapter president Vimalraj.
