Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.A. Sengottaiyan said on Saturday that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam would achieve a huge victory in the byelections for Maduranthakam and Dharapuram constituencies and those to other constituencies, which would be announced by the Election Commission of India (EC) after the High Court delivered its verdict on September 28. He was speaking to reporters after attending the centenary celebrations of the Kaliappampalayam Panchayat Union Primary School near Gobichettipalayam. He distributed prizes to students who had won various competitions. Asked about development works for schools that had completed 100 years, Mr. Sengottaiyan said all parts of the State were being monitored directly by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay through the School Education Department and all schemes would be implemented effectively. On the delay in disbursal of social security assistance, he said financial assistance due from the Centre to senior citizens, deserted women, widows, and persons with disabilities had not been released to around 27,412 beneficiaries. The State government had recommended that the Centre release the funds by September 14, he said, adding that the government had taken steps to ensure that the beneficiaries received the assistance on Monday. On the byelection, Mr. Sengottaiyan said: “Wherever we go, we emerge victorious. The court verdict for the election petitions in the other constituencies is expected on September 28. Once the High Court delivers its verdict, the EC will announce the date for the byelections.”
