Director-General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force (HoPF) Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, along with Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj, held a meeting with senior police officers on Saturday to review the law and order situation in the city, the progress of infrastructure projects, and various public services.
Sources said Mr. Amalraj usually conducts a weekly review meeting with Additional Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners of Police at the Commissionerate in Vepery.
On Saturday, Mr. Aggarwal attended the review meeting during his visit to the Commissionerate to inspect the construction of an annexe building that will house the Cyber Crime units and an integrated modern control room.
During the meeting, Mr. Aggarwal instructed the officers to intensify operations against narcotics and focus on the seizure and freezing of financial assets linked to drug offenders. The DGP and the Commissioner also discussed measures to curb the activities of history-sheeters and other criminals.
It may be recalled that 285 persons with criminal backgrounds were arrested in a special drive conducted across Chennai on Thursday and Friday.
Mr. Aggarwal also directed the officers to act swiftly on complaints relating to cyber fraud, sources said.
The police were told to remain vigilant during forthcoming festivals and events, including the Vinayaka idol procession.
The officers also reviewed the implementation of a mobile and cloud-based application, e-Sakshya, developed to help police personnel digitally record crime scenes, searches, and seizures.
They also discussed the e-Summons platform, which streamlines the generation, transmission, execution and reporting of court processes in electronic form.
