DUSU 2026 election highlights: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday claimed strong support in Delhi University’s college students’ union elections, recording clean sweeps at several colleges, and expressed confidence of a 4-0 victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections. According to a press release issued by ABVP, the organisation won all posts at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, while its panel secured a 6-0 clean sweep at Sri Aurobindo College (Morning), all eight posts at Bharati College and a 6-0 sweep at Shivaji College....
At Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, ABVP won all four posts, while at Keshav Mahavidyalaya, its candidates won the three key posts of president, vice president and secretary by substantial margins.
Meanwhile, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) claimed victory on two seats at Aryabhatta College.
It shared, "NSUI's Flag Flies High at Aryabhatta College NSUI has achieved a splendid victory on two seats at Aryabhatta College. After the victory, the newly elected CC Devansh Saini met with NSUI's National President Mr. Vinod Jakhar ji along with his team and received congratulations and best wishes for the win. Voting for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections began on Friday morning, with 20 candidates from major student organisations, including the ABVP, NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance, contesting the four central panel posts in one of the most closely watched contests in student politics.
Polling for day classes will be held from 8.30 am to 1 pm, while students attending evening classes can vote between 3 pm and 7.30 pm. Counting of votes is scheduled for September 19 at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus.
The contest for the four central panel posts, namely president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary, is expected to see an intense battle between the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress-backed National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and the Left alliance of the All India Students' Association (AISA) and Students' Federation of India (SFI).
A total of 1,000 EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) have been deployed, out of which 960 will be in use on Friday, with 40 in reserve, university officials told PTI.
In the 2025 election, the ABVP won three of the four central panel posts, including the president's position, while the NSUI secured the vice-president's post.
ABVP's Aryan Maan had won the president's post with 28,841 votes, while NSUI's Rahul Jhansla secured the vice-president's post with 29,339 votes. ABVP candidates Kunal Chaudhary and Deepika Jha became secretary and joint secretary, respectively, after defeating their opponents.
Meet the candidates
The final provisional list, released after scrutiny and withdrawal of nominations, includes seven candidates for president, five for vice-president, four for secretary, and four for joint secretary.
ABVP has fielded Yash Dabas for president, Ishu Maurya for vice-president, Riya Chhawadi for secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh for joint secretary.
The NSUI has nominated Vijay Shankar Meena for president, Vir Chatrath for vice-president, Namrata Chaudhary for secretary and Gopal Choudhary for joint secretary.
The organisation has said its campaign will focus on putting "student interests first" and building a "prosperous, safe and better" Delhi University.
The AISA-SFI alliance has nominated Ananya Raturi for president, Akshat Shikhar for vice-president, Stanzin Deskyong for secretary and B Parijaat for joint secretary.
The alliance has described its panel as representing "alternative politics" and said it would seek to build a student-led DUSU while opposing "money and muscle politics".
Who promised what
NSUI’s "My Campus, My Manifesto" campaign received several suggestions from students, with the initiative aimed at incorporating their concerns into its election agenda, members had said.
ABVP's "My DU, My Manifesto" campaign has similarly sought feedback from students, while the organisation has highlighted issues related to student welfare and campus facilities.
Student safety and accommodation have emerged as an important poll plank, among other issues, following the Satya Niketan building collapse earlier this month, which claimed seven lives, including students. The incident has renewed attention on the availability and safety of student housing in the national capital.
The AISA-SFI alliance has raised demands related to affordable accommodation and hostel facilities, while ABVP has highlighted its housing agenda, including proposals for a Student Housing Cell and safety audits.
Meanwhile, the university has restricted vehicular movement on key stretches, including Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road, ahead of the election process, while student organisations are taking their campaigns to classrooms, college campuses and social media.
According to an advisory issued by the university, traffic restrictions will be in place on Friday and Saturday until the results are declared.

DUSU Election 2026 LIVE: Behind the fluttering campaign pamphlets and long queues outside colleges across North Campus, the issues that followed voters into the DUSU polling booths were quite basic -- a room they could afford, a placement after graduation or the right to stay home when menstrual cramps make attending class difficult.
As Delhi University students voted on Friday, conversations with students of several North Campus colleges, including Ramjas College, Hindu College, Hansraj College, Kirori Mal College and the Faculty of Law showed that accommodation, hygiene, menstrual leave, fees, placements, internships and basic student facilities were among the issues informing their choices.
For students coming to Delhi from outside the city, accommodation was not merely a question of convenience.
"Hostel and accommodation are major concerns because not everyone can afford to stay in a private PG. Students come from different backgrounds, and many have to spend a substantial part of their family income just to live near college," a student said.(PTI)

At some colleges, they are trying to create disorder; at others, they are attempting to cause disturbances and intimidate students. This entire conspiracy of theirs is failing. They have realised that they are going to lose and are trying to intimidate Vidyarthi Parishad workers,” ABVP said.

Aditi, a first-year BA Programme student from Uttarakhand, linked accommodation concerns to student safety. "Students arriving from other states should not have to compromise their security while searching for affordable housing," she told PTI.

DUSU 2026 election LIVE:The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Friday alleged intimidation, social media account shutdowns and misuse of the police and administration during the ongoing DUSU elections.
In a post on X, the student organisation said: “More than two hours have passed since voting began. When our opponents see their ground slipping away, they have resorted to intimidation, shutting down social media accounts and misusing the police and administration. Picking up our supporters and their family members outside Bhagat Singh College clearly shows their panic.”
“This fight is no longer just about an election; it is about saving democracy and self-respect!” NSUI said.
The Congress-backed union further urged the students to reach polling booths in large numbers and ensure that NSUI's complete 6-4-1-2 panel wins.
