The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Wednesday (September 9, 2026) began conducting raids on the residences and other premises linked to Karnataka Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi and his daughter Priyanka Jarkiholi, who is a Congress MP from Chikkodi Lok Sabha constituency.
The ED has said they have registered a case against Satish Jarkiholi.
The raids are on at the residences of the Jarkiholis in Bengaluru, Belagavi and Gokak, apart from other locations. A total of 18 locations, including residences of his family members, associates and businesses linked to the Jarkiholi family, are also being searched.
Further, the premises linked to senior Excise Department official Y. Manjunath, the brother-in-law of Mr. Jarkiholi — who was raided by the ED in June this year in relation to a money laundering case pertaining to alleged corruption in the Excise Department — is also being searched on Wednesday (September 9, 2026).
Presently, there is no clarity whether the Minister is at any of the locations being raided or not.
Case against Satish Jarkiholi
The ED clarified that the latest raids against the Jarkiholis are not related to the excise case and is an independent new case against the PWD Minister.
In June this year, the agency claimed that “organised syndicate involving public officials, intermediaries and private individuals engaged in systematic collection and distribution of bribes”. The ED said several officials allegedly obtained liquor licences in the names of their family members or entities controlled by them and operated businesses indirectly.
It is key to note that Satish Jarkiholi also held charge as the Excise Minister of Karnataka between 2013 and 2016. The Jarkiholi family has significant business interests in sugar and liquor industries.
While the ED has now said they have registered a fresh Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Satish Jarkiholi, it is not clear whether the leads for the same came from what they found during their raids on the premises linked to Y. Manjunath in June.
The houses, offices and commercial properties of the following persons were searched
1. Priyanka Jarkiholi, MP and the minister's daughter
2. Rahul Jarkiholi, son of the minister and director of Belagavi district Central cooperative bank.
3. Y Manjunath, joint commissioner of excise and brother-in-law of the minister.
4. Girish Sonwalkar , Raju Daragasheety and Vithal Parasannavar , close friends and associates of the minister.
5. Dr Sonwalkar who hails from Mudalagi near Gokak and is a professor in Belagavi institute of medical sciences.
6. Daragasheety and Parasannavar, who are Gokak based businessmen.
Officers are said to be examining documents and electronic gadgets used by the minister, his staff and associates for evidence of foreign travel and fund transfers between Indian and foreign entities.
The Minister's alleged overseas investment in a school in an African country, and his business ventures, including investment in mining, sugar and real estate are abeing examined, an officer said.
All the residences of the Minister and Mr Manjunath have been locked from outside, while officers are working inside.
Two teams of personnel, local police and Central reserve police are on duty outside these premises .
