Google today confirmed that it will launch its Fitbit-branded fitness tracker, that is, Fitbit Air, in India in October this year. The announcement was made shortly after the company launched its Pixel 11 series smartphones, Pixel Watch 5, Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a at its annual Made by Google event last night.
For the unversed, Google first officially unveiled the Fitbit Air fitness tracker back in May this year. At the time, Google had announced its availability only in the US with a price starting at $99.99 ( ₹9,541 approximately). Now, almost three months later, the company has announced that it will soon bring its fitness tracker to the Indian market.
It is worth mentioning that Google's Fitbit Air fitness tracker is already listed on Amazon India in Pink, Blue and Black colour variants, which towards an imminent launch. While the Black coloured variant is listed at a price of ₹17,360, the Blue coloured variant is listed at a price of ₹17,630 and the Pink coloured variant is listed at a price of ₹18,470.
Fitbit Air specifications and features
Let's talk about the specifications first. Unlike fitness tracker that come with a display to help users keep a track of their vitals, get notifications and track their workouts, the Fitbit Air comes with a lightweight fabric-based loop like design that is more comfortable to wear for longer durations. This loop has a has a small attachment underneath it that houses all the health-tracking sensors. The attachment that houses all the sensors is made of recycled polycarbonate and PBT plastics while the band is made of textile and it has a stainless steel buckle. These sensor in the attachment collect all the data, which is then display in Google's Health app.
Coming to the sensors, the Fitbit Air gets an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer and gyroscope, a red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring, a device temperature sensor for monitoring skin temperature variations and a vibration motor.
While the Fitbit Air doesn't get a display, it can store up to seven days of detailed motion data with minute by minute updates. It can also stores heart rate data at 2-second intervals. On the battery front, this fitness tracker offers up to seven days of battery life and Google says that it charges completely in around 90 minutes. On the connectivity front, it gets Bluetooth 5.0 and it has a syncing range of up to 30 feet. It is compatible with smartphones running Android 11.0 or higher and iOS 16.4 or higher.
Talking about the features, the Fitbit Air offers 24/7 heart rate tracking, heart rhythm monitoring with Afib alerts, SpO2 tracking, resting heart rate tracking, heart rate variability tracking and support for sleep stages and duration tracking.
Users can use the Google Health Coach, which was introduced alongside the Fitbit Air back in May this year, help users track and improve their workout automatically. For those not sure, Google Health Coach is available within Google's Health app and it requires a premium subscription to unlock all its features.
