The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy called upon party leaders and cadre on Wednesday to gear up for the forthcoming local body elections, asserting that the ruling TDP-led coalition was facing growing public resentment.
Addressing a meeting with former local body representatives and party functionaries from the Rajamahendravaram Rural Assembly constituency at the YSRCP central office, Mr. Jagan alleged that the coalition government had failed to benefit any section of society during its two years in office. He claimed that people were comparing its performance with the five-year YSRCP rule and expressing dissatisfaction.
Mr. Jagan said the YSRCP could approach voters with confidence as it had fulfilled 99% of its manifesto promises. He claimed that ₹2.73 lakh crore had been transferred directly to beneficiaries without discrimination or middlemen. He cited initiatives in education, healthcare and agriculture, including Nadu-Nedu, English-medium education, digital classrooms, Aarogyasri, medical colleges, village clinics, Rythu Bharosa Kendras and village secretariats.
He alleged that farmers were facing difficulties amid a 53% rainfall deficit and accused the government of weakening Rythu Bharosa Kendras, withdrawing free crop insurance and failing to ensure remunerative prices and adequate irrigation. He also claimed that delays in fee reimbursement and ‘Vasathi Deevena’ payments had affected students, with dues under the two schemes exceeding ₹12,400 crore.
On law and order, Mr. Jagan alleged that the police system had been politicised and cases were being filed against critics of the government. He referred to the death of postgraduate medical student Dr. Priyanka in Rajamahendravaram and the recent Addanki incident involving alleged ganja and cash found in a police vehicle.
He warned that the coalition government might use police pressure and inducements during local elections, but urged cadre to remain steadfast. “The people are with us,” he said, calling on party workers to fight strongly and ensure victory.
He also entrusted local leaders with the responsibility of securing victory for Rajamahendravaram Rural party in-charge and former Minister Chelluboyina Venu Gopala Krishna.
