Health Minister K.G. Arunraj and Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban inaugurated a modernised master health check-up centre worth ₹6.12 crore at the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital on Thursday (September 10, 2026).
Speaking at the function, Minister Parthiban said that the public, from Salem and nearby districts, are visiting the Salem Government Hospital for treatment. Through the modernised master health check-up centre, tests such as blood tests, kidney and liver function tests, ECGs, echocardiograms, scans for cancer, heart assessments, diabetes tests, blood pressure measurements, and eye tests will be conducted.
Minister Arunraj said that, in Chennai, master health check-up centres are getting positive response from the public, attracting people from all income groups. Compared to private hospitals, the cost is very low at this centre. The facility will be available eventually at all government hospitals in the State. He added that the master health check-ups are offered in four categories starting from ₹1,000, up to ₹4,000.
Dr. Arunraj said that, soon, a master plan will be created for government medical colleges and district-level hospitals to fulfil the needs for the next 30 years. A care coordination scheme will be brought to follow up the patients. “Level one fertility centres will be facilitated at 31 government medical colleges and six government hospitals. A home-based lab facility for administering blood tests at one’s doorstep will be launched through the Nalam AI app,” he added.
Dr. Arunraj said that the government will create 284 specialist doctor posts, and 2,500 nurses will be regularised from consolidated pay, in the first phase.
In the event, District Collector K. Elambahavath, Corporation Commissioner Lalitaditya Neelam, MLAs Sivakumar and Lakshmanan, and officials from departments concerned participated.
