China confirms Xi to visit India after 7 year gap; trade, normalisation on agenda
China announced on Thursday (September 10, 2026) that President Xi Jinping will attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12, on what will be his first visit to India in almost seven years. Mr. Xi last visited in October 2019 for an informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Mamallapuram near Chennai. The two leaders are expected to meet for bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit in New Delhi. ECI recognises TVK as State party; Tamil Nadu CM Vijay expresses gratitude to people
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has recognised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a State party in both Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry after it satisfied the prescribed criteria. Previously, the TVK was a registered, unrecognised party. With the ECI recognition, the party is entitled to have its symbol ‘Whistle’ reserved, besides certain other advantages. In the 2026 Assembly election, the TVK contested 233 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and won 108 seats with a vote share of 34.92%. The party also won two of the 28 seats it contested in Puducherry, with a vote share of 16.85%.

Water crisis: KWA to boost Aluva WTP output; Kochi to get additional 10 MLD water
With Kerala Water Authority’s (KWA) tender to enhance the efficiency of its 225 MLD water treatment plant (WTP) in Aluva finalised and agreements inked, an additional 10 MLD of treated water will be available for Kochi and its adjoining areas. According to KWA officials, new motor pump sets will be installed at the WTP, replacing the old ones. “These pump sets are being changed after more than two decades. Once the new ones are installed, there will be more discharge of water, and therefore more water can be distributed to Kochi and adjoining panchayats. The whole region will benefit when this additional water becomes available,” said a KWA source.
Nepal floods death toll climbs to 1,377; search operations continue for more than 5,000 missing
The death toll due to the flash floods in Nepal rose to 1,377 on Thursday (September 10, 2026) as more bodies were recovered from the affected districts, while rescue and search operations continue for more than 5,000 missing people, authorities said. At least 364 bodies have been recovered from Chitwan district, 228 from Nawalparasi East, 222 from Nawalparasi West and 198 from Nuwakot, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
