Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Nainar Nagenthran said on Sunday that the “mistakes” of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government will be reflected in the results of the ensuing byelections to Dharapuram and Madurantakam Assembly Constituencies. The ruling party has fielded the same candidates who resigned their Assembly membership after being elected on an AIADMK ticket, and switched to the TVK.
Contending that the people did not like the byelections imposed on them due to the resignation of elected candidates, who have now re-entered the fray, he told journalists that the people were also affected by a host of issues.
The BJP leader questioned when the government proposed to construct a new Secretariat and what was the need for setting up a new Chief Minister's room at an investment of ₹6 crore. “The Chief Minister, who saved fishermen in the movies he acted, has now decided to evacuate them for the construction of a new Secretariat. The CPI (M), which supports the TVK government from outside, is also protesting against the construction of a new Secretariat. The government says it is planning to construct a new Secretariat at an investment of ₹1,200 crore. There is nothing wrong in constructing a new Secretariat, but it should be done after sorting out electricity, transport and drinking water supply issues,” he argued.
Mr. Nagenthran said T.N. Electricity Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar should know the details of power generation and distribution. Already in huge debt, the Electricity Department is now procuring electricity for higher prices, he alleged. The Minister should increase the power generation.
The government should conduct a review meeting regarding Aavin milk scarcity and identify the reason for the reduction in milk procurement. These issues will reflect in the byelection results, he alleged.
Regarding the death of an Anna University student due to scrub typhus, he alleged that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the Ministers were not concerned about the issue. He charged that there was a lack of sanitation at Anna University.
Earlier, the BJP leader participated in a blood donation camp organised by the party at Minnampalli here to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, and distributed certificates to those who participated in the camp.
