MGM Healthcare has performed open surgical chest contouring on a 44-year-old police officer diagnosed with Grade 3 gynaecomastia and Stage 1 liver failure.
As a press release, the patient, a police officer, had significant enlargement of breast tissue with excess skin, which affected his ability to run and change comfortably at his workplace, causing embarrassment and reduced self-esteem. As he also had bleeding abnormalities associated with liver dysfunction, doctors decided against conventional liposuction and opted for an open surgical approach.
A team led by S. Narayanamurthy, Senior Consultant and Head, Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Microsurgery, and Suresh Rajendran, Senior Consultant, Plastic Surgery, performed a three-hour double-incision mastectomy with free nipple grafts. The procedure involved removal of the glandular tissue and excess skin to achieve a symmetrical, masculine chest contour.
The case required careful coordination between the surgical, anaesthesia and gastroenterology teams, with liver-friendly anaesthetic agents used during the procedure, the release added.
